GP-45-TGX (ExCool Model)

Description

Both GP-45-TGX models (Base & ExCool) are the production models based on the GP-40-TGX prototypes built for use by the Arcade & Attica after the Freedom Central's hostile takeover.

The GP-45-TGX (ExCool) model features FCR's FIRE-3i (F.I.R.E., Phase III - Isolated) with a re-enforced crashplate forming the front panel of the cab. The front door has been moved to the very front of the cab nose in imitation of the Norfolk Southern "Crescent" cabs. Unlike the NS version, the FIRE-3i cab molds the door around the front crease. This door is also re-enforced with special steel stiffeners. For railroads with the desire, Freedom Central has specified the specifications for this cab to include titanium crash frame members to be available for cab re-enforcement.

The onboard systems include FCR's custom LCARS (Locomotive Computer Control, Communications, Authorities & Restrictions System) as the primary crew interface and PTC system. Stephen's Railcar provides their MAXXTRAX-X(v2.0) advanced Adhesion Control software for the locomotives' traction system including the AC traction motors and inverters. MaxxTrax-2X also controls the dynamic braking system as well.

In addition to PTC, the locomotives also feature FCR's trademarked "EcoSlug™" system which allows sets of MU'ed engines to dynamically allocate different units as slugs in a consist. Also, in conjunction with M.U.v2, the EcoSlug control system can dynamically re-rate the engines through modifications to the fuel-rack software, this in conjunction with the dynamic slug operation makes for massive fuel savings possibilities in road-switcher operations. The locomotives also feature "GoldSpike™" wireless multiple-unit technology.

The ExCool model of the GP-45-TGX eliminates the option of rear-installed dynamic brakes, but for that sacrifice provides 50% more radiator cooling capability. This can be used by the HEP generator, water-cooled dynamic brakes (which allows a dynamic grid to exceed the standard 1150amps) or to provide additional cooling capacity for extremely hot/arid or high altitude environments. Further, the additional cooling allows for the installation of a 16 cylinder 801 engine, allowing for
Tier 4, 5,000hp, engines. Teamed with EcoSlug, the ExCool version has the awesome potential to be a superior workhorse locomotive that can dig down and battle out in drag-freight or get those super-long heavy truck-trains up to track speed.  The ExCool configuration also allows for the installation of a 16cylinder 710HX engine, custom configured to burn hydrogen instead of fossil fuels.

Nice job. Although I probably would have gone for the Dynamic Brake grills that were used on the GP60s.
